If memory serves me correctly, Le Tigre were part of the second wave of food trucks from the great Vancouver food truck experiment that the city let happen back in 2010-2012. Glad to see the truck still doing well and that they’re finally gonna open up a brick & mortar place in Chinatown in May. The truck already serves restaurant-quality food and it’ll be exciting to see what Top Chef Canada Clement Chan and team will do with a full restaurant.
In celebration of Pi Day (π Day — this Saturday, 3.14), I’m putting this Facebook album from an event last summer onto the blog for real, so that it now has a happy (and Google-able) home! Mostly pictures, not much by way of commentary 😛
So officially, this event was The 5th Incredible Pie Championship put on by the fine East Van community-minded collective The Association of Very Good Ideas. This happened back on Sunday, August 24, 2014 and I had pie overload.
Hi, Wicca here! You may have heard that I’m a dessert fanatic with a discriminating palate (as in “I want the world”), particularly when it comes to Asian flavours. Guilty as charged…
I recently saw Eater’s fake magazine cover of “Gout”, so I was inspired to do my own version based on…another magazine. I wanted to make it a bit funnier, geekier, and more local:
Think anyone will buy it?
The closest font I could find to the Bon Appetit font was New Baskerville. Type nerds will notice that it’s not quite the same cuz Bon Appetit actually used a custom font inspired by New Baskerville. I used Gibson for the rest, and OCR-B for the UPC area. It was fun. And the photo is from my dinner at Bambudda.
Hope it made you chuckle at least!
Kishimoto has been around for little over 3 years and has been a favourite Eastside Japanese restaurant. Some in-laws were in town recently (they’re from sushi-wasteland Calgary 😛 ), so we finally had an excuse to go. Boy, are we glad we picked this place! It’s definitely the top sushi place in East Van, along with Sushi by Yuji and Shima-Ya.
It’s been a few weeks since I checked out the Juno Kim Monday Night Dinner Series at 33 Acres. I had an orally and mentally stimulating bite of his food at Hawkers Market a couple nights previous, so I thought I’d check out his take on chicken tacos and chili. As always, if you’re curious about what he’s cooking up for his Monday night dinners, check out his Instagram feed.
It was the first Hawkers Market of the year and it was a fun one. Way too much for one person to eat, but I hope you enjoy the pics and thoughts below. You can read about my previous Hawkers Market visits here, here, here and oh also here. As you can tell, I enjoy the combination of music and food in a warehouse party-type environment. 😀
