Mangal Kiss are a longtime favourite food truck downtown. A lot of food truck food is too indulgent to eat often, so it’s nice to have lighter and healthier options. The standout feature of Mangal Kiss’ wraps is the assortment of crazy-delicious veggies that they put inside. Continue reading Veggie-on-Veggie Action at Mangal Kiss
Glad to see Hawkers Market back for another year of food, music and fun! (Previous posts here and here.) If you’ve never heard of Hawkers Market, it’s basically a warehouse party/rave mashed up with a farmers market/street food festival.
Lotta photos and less words in this time 😀 Continue reading Cookie & Milk Shot Plus More at Hawkers Market – May 10 2014
Bottom line first: I wanted to like it more than I did. The cooking is executed well but the flavour combinations are a bit odd and don’t necessarily showcase the ingredients in the best light.
Now for the meat of the review… Continue reading Horse Tartare at Mamie Taylor’s
The two best Malaysian restaurants in Vancouver right now are probably Penang Delight on Rupert and Kaya Malay Bistro on Broadway. Both good restaurants. The difference in a nutshell: Penang is a bit on the greasy side (sometimes a good thing), Kaya is a bit cleaner and more upscale. Hawker’s Delight is a cheap guilty pleasure too. But I’m always on the hunt for better Malaysian/Singaporean food because it’s one of our favourite cuisines, and one that hasn’t been done justice yet in Vancouver. I heard about Ipoh Asian House on Hastings on Twitter, thanks to Moyenchow:
SPOTTED: Ipoh Asian House on Hastings near Penny’s, just opened. If they have Ipoh Chicken, might have to TOFT. pic.twitter.com/hBW9nIsqkB

So naturally we all went to check it out!
BTW, they don’t actually have the real “Ipoh Chicken” dish despite the name. 🙁 Continue reading Ipoh Meh-sian House
My vegetarian sister has been going to Chau VeggieExpress for a few years now, but I didn’t have any interest in going until I heard that they started carrying craft beer 🙂 Continue reading Vegetarian Food that Doesn’t Suck: Chau VeggieExpress
Whenever people ask me about pizza in Vancouver, my first and last answer is Pizzeria Farina. Their New York/Neapolitan hybrid really lights my fire. Continue reading Crack Cocaine on a Crust: Pizzeria Farina
I saw this place across the street from Campagnolo and thought, “Middle-eastern kebab burgers?!” After closer inspection and some googling I realized it was Korean rice burgers, and nothing to do with kebabs. Continue reading Korean Rice Burgers at Kobob Burger on Main St.
I love the accomplished Thai cooking in a casual atmosphere that Longtail Kitchen excels at. We went for a late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Since we got there around 3:00pm, we thought why not try their Chef’s Menu?
(See previous Longtail Kitchen posts here.) Continue reading Getting My Tail Kicked at Longtail Kitchen
We’ve been meaning to get back to Burdock & Co. for dinner after having a great brunch a while back. One thing that kicked our asses into gear was reading that Burdock won the Silver Award for Vancouver Magazine’s Best New Restaurant, so we thought that we’d better get in there before it’s slammed! (Farmer’s Apprentice won Gold, so uhhh, good luck getting in!) Continue reading You’re Such A Tease!! Dinner at Burdock & Co.
