This was our third wonderful trip to Portland. “Beervana” indeed. Another case of waaaaay too much to do and not enough time. In fact, I got a bit overloaded towards the end. Too much of a good thing is a good problem to have…?
This is another post dug out of my personal Facebook account — too good to be left in the walled garden! AFAIK, all the places I visited are still open, so all this info still applies today if you thinking of planning a trip. The one exception is Amnesia Brewing, whose brewpub location got sold and the brewery moved to Washington State (more details here). Congratulations to twinkienic of Between Snacks for winning a beautiful bottle of Mikkeller Risgoop! It was a fun contest, I might do it again! 😉
To celebrate the launch of this blog, I’m giving away a bottle of semi-sorta-not-really-rareish Mikkeller / Three Floyds Risgoop (2012), a barleywine that uses rice! I haven’t even tried this one, but it would make me so happy to share it with one lucky beer geek. Read the RateBeer and BeerAdvocate reviews if you want to learn more about this beer. I bought this during my last trip to Alberta, from the great Sherbrooke Liquor Store in Edmonton. Now you can enjoy it! Drink it now, cellar it, or gift it to a special someone.
I heard about PappaRoti last year and wondered, “What makes these buns different from typical Chinese bakery buns like pineapple buns and mexico buns?” So naturally, I found out. Continue reading Let’s Talk About Asian Buns (Not Mine): PappaRoti on Robson St.
We were so happy with brunch at Ask for Luigi that we went back for dinner. Followed by ice cream at Earnest Ice Cream! It was a salty and sweet affair… Continue reading Salty & Sweet: Ask for Luigi and Earnest Ice Cream
Can a restaurant be considered good even if not everything they do is good? Can the strong dishes make up for the crappy ones? I really wanted to have a good time at Zipang Provisions, but things didn’t quite gel. Continue reading Bit of a rocky dinner at Zipang Provisions
I’ve talked about the miracle of food trucks at Brassneck before, and this time I tried Guanaco, the Salvadorean food truck. Continue reading Guanaco Truck at Brassneck: Awesome Cassava Fries
Wandered into The Portside Pub while waiting for Alibi Room to open on a Thursday afternoon and saw that they changed their menu to a more Nova Scotia-focused one. Before they had fun snacky stuff like dim sum, hot dogs (“red hots”) and popcorn. Now, sadly, that’s all gone. Continue reading Taste of Nova Scotia at Portside Pub (With Bonus Round at Alibi Room)
Our food & beer adventures in SF! There’s so much to do there, we’ll have to go back soon! This trip was all about having too much on our list to do, but being relaxed and open-minded enough to just let things happen and take chances when they come up! Continue reading Serendipity in San Francisco – June 2013
I’ve been to Marutama Ramen a few times since they first opened in May 2013. It’s a nice change from all the pork-based tonkotsu ramen in town. Continue reading Still Nuts About Nut Ramen: Marutama Ramen
