Everyone seen the promo video for Strathcona Beer Company yet? They’re really showing their love for skaters, motocross, bocce ball, weenie-roasting, working out on rooftops, and beer! This place finally opened on Friday, July 15 after a bit of controversy over opening up a brewery in a low-income neighborhood that struggles with addiction.
Everyone knows about Hawksworth, the multi-award-winning upscale restaurant in the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, right? I’ve actually never been there! More generous relatives have brought their families there and quite enjoyed it, but I’ve never step foot in there. An old boss of mine remarked that dining there is actually a good value! I thought, “WTF?! Maybe in your … Continue reading David Hawksworth Unbuttoned: First Look at Nightingale→
Have we reached “peak ramen”? In the same month that Hapa Ramen opened up, Sanpoutei Ramen in Richmond (next to Parker Place on No. 3 Road) had their grand opening on January 30 20, 2016. In short: good but not worth lining up for. I’d wait until the crowds die down, or go during non-peak … Continue reading First Look: Sanpoutei Ramen in Richmond (Have we reached “Peak Ramen”?)→
You might’ve read about it on Scout. The “highly anticipated” bbq place on Hastings and Gore called Dixie’s BBQ is now open! Actually, they’re just going to be open for Dine Out Vancouver (Jan. 15-31, 2016), then they’ll close down to fiddle with things and re-open on Feb. 10. They’ll launch a brunch menu soon … Continue reading First Look: Central Texas style BBQ at Dixie’s BBQ in the Downtown Eastside (yup)→
There is scant information about this brand-new ramen place, The Ramenman, that opened up just a block away from Ramen Santouka. They’re now in their soft-opening phase. They opened quietly on Sunday, October 18 and I visited then on their third day of operation to check them out. Much thanks to Sean (Sean’s Adventures in … Continue reading First Look: Brave New Ramen at The Ramenman in the West End→
Callister Brewing is now open! Their soft-opening was yesterday, but I guess this was their first full day being open to the public. It’s good that they’re open now, while there’s still some good summer weather to be had. I’m not sure if people would come out if it was the middle of a dreary … Continue reading First Look: Callister Brewing in Yeast Van→
Red Truck Beer and their Truck Stop Diner finally soft-opened last week in the historic “Brewery Creek” area. They’re located on 2nd Ave, about a 5 minute walk east of Main St. Lots of other beer places already exist in this neighborhood, including Brassneck, 33 Acres, Main Street Brewing, Steel Toad Brewpub, CRAFT Beer Market, … Continue reading First Look: Red Truck Beer & Truck Stop Diner Soft Opening→
Mere steps from Ramen Jinya is the new Straight Outta Brooklyn Pizza which opened April 8 (almost 2 weeks ago as of this post). I think there’s been huge latent demand in Vancouver for NY-style, thin crust, QUALITY pizza. Downtown is awash in cheap slice pizza, so how does SOB compare? Will you pay more … Continue reading First Look: Straight Outta Brooklyn NYC Pizzeria→
