First Look: Central Texas style BBQ at Dixie’s BBQ in the Downtown Eastside (yup)

You might’ve read about it on Scout. The “highly anticipated” bbq place on Hastings and Gore called Dixie’s BBQ is now open! Actually, they’re just going to be open for Dine Out Vancouver (Jan. 15-31, 2016), then they’ll close down to fiddle with things and re-open on Feb. 10. They’ll launch a brunch menu soon after on Feb. 13. (I was told that the brunch menu would be a full-on Southern brunch with stuff like chicken ‘n waffles.)

Disclaimer: This is early, early, early days for these guys. In fact, I was their first customer 😛 So take everything with a grain of salt. I’m sure things will change and hopefully improve over time as they get into a rhythm and get to know their smoker intimately and carnally.

Celebrating 5 Years of Pork: Swinefest 2015 at Hog Shack in Steveston

Hog Shack just celebrated it’s 5th anniversary on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015 with Swinefest, a “competition-style” barbecue buffet that included a glass of Driftwood’s fresh hop Sartori Harvest for only $35! It was a sweet deal that probably flew under a lot of people’s radar, but it sold out well ahead of time anyways. We were there to celebrate and indulge, so here’s the recap. Enjoy!

Put a Nerd on It: Portland Trip Megapost – August 2012

This was our third wonderful trip to Portland. “Beervana” indeed. Another case of waaaaay too much to do and not enough time. In fact, I got a bit overloaded towards the end. Too much of a good thing is a good problem to have…?

This is another post dug out of my personal Facebook account — too good to be left in the walled garden! AFAIK, all the places I visited are still open, so all this info still applies today if you thinking of planning a trip. The one exception is Amnesia Brewing, whose brewpub location got sold and the brewery moved to Washington State (more details here).
