My Version of Going to a Cafe: Brunch at Tuc Craft Kitchen

January 25, 2014 dennis Leave a comment

Finally had a chance to try out Tuc Craft Kitchen (facebook) in Gastown. What attracted me were their “Nibbles & Bites” like Pork Belly Crackling and tempura-battered Crispy Bacon & Egg. Perfect bar snacks. Continue reading My Version of Going to a Cafe: Brunch at Tuc Craft Kitchen →

  • 9 hours ago by dennisthefoodie The winning team at today's  #YYCMasterchefJunior  was... #TeamBlank ! Team Blank was actually the younger team, but worked really well together and put up delicious food.  #TeamNotAmerican  put up a good fight, but in the end Team Blank won with 295 points versus Team Not American's 292 points, so a VERY close competition. Congratulations to all the kids! So proud of you! Keep on cooking!  #DTFinCalgary16   #yyc   #calgary  This prize is actually a repurposed Employee of the Month prize from some Alberta energy company.
  • 9 hours ago by dennisthefoodie Totally impressed by the performance, teamwork, and creativity with these 9-13 year olds today at our little  #YYCMasterchefJunior  competition. Last dish and my surprise favourite,  #TeamBlank 's  #ChocolateBrownie  with  #Bacon ,  #CaramelSauce , and  #ChocolateSauce  Smear. I liked how it wasn't too sweet, and the doneness of the  #brownie  was great. It was adorable to see them doing the toothpick test on the  #brownies .  #DTFinCalgary16   #yyc   #calgary
  • 9 hours ago by dennisthefoodie  #TeamNotAmerican 's sweet dish for today's  #YYCMasterchefJunior  competition:  #Bacon  and  #Pecan   #IceCream  sandwiched in between  #ButterCookies . Cookies were buttery and crumbly. Ice cream very rich. Electrifying sweetness. Unique presentation.  #DTFinCalgary16   #yyc   #calgary
  • 9 hours ago by dennisthefoodie  #TeamBlank 's savoury dish from  #YYCMasterchefJunior  today:  #GrilledCheese   #Sandwich  with  #Bacon  and  #LaughingCow   #Cheese  ( #LaVacheQuiRit ), with  #LemonZest  and  #Ketchup   #Sriracha  Smear. Seriously tasted awesome. The lemon zest was an inspired touch.  #DTFinCalgary16   #yyc   #calgary
  • 9 hours ago by dennisthefoodie I got oozy  #yolk  action from a kid's dish!  #TeamNotAmerican 's Southern Breakfast dish with a nicely cooked  #egg .  #YYCMasterchefJunior   #DTFinCalgary16   #yyc   #calgary
  • 10 hours ago by dennisthefoodie Wow, what a day! We did a little  #YYCMasterchefJunior  competition this afternoon with some family and friends with kids aged 9-13. Wicca and I judged (along with two of the dads). Two teams had 90 minutes to create a savoury dish and a sweet dish, both incorporating  #BACON , with a budget of $15. This is the savoury dish from  #TeamNotAmerican : their take on a Southern  #breakfast  with Bacon,  #Sausage , and  #Egg  on  #ButtermilkBiscuits , with a " #BaconFat  Reduction  #MapleSyrup " on the side. Sausage, bacon, and egg cooked very well! Biscuits weren't flaky but it didn't bother me much. I'm not going…
  • 21 hours ago by dennisthefoodie Much-deserved snack after parking my white Porsche Cayenne into the garage I had to jam it in but it finally fit!* Really happy to have found these  @fullerfoods   #SeriousCheesyPuffs  ( #Sriracha   #Cheddar  Flavour). These  #baked   #cornpuffs  are made in  #Portland  and are insufferably  #hipster  . As usual, the sriracha flavouring doesn't taste like the real deal Huy Fong brand Sriracha, but it's still spicy, a bit sour, and a bit garlicky. The colour that's left on your fingers is real cheddar — no food colouring. I got these from  @market17  (thx for the tip  @foodkarmablog ), but I just noticed that these…
  • 1 day ago by dennisthefoodie Thanks  @azzurripizzeria  for letting me take a photo of your  #MarraForni   #pizzaoven . Close to 900°F on the floor! I have a real respect for delicious, magical things that are created from a few simple elements. Really shows the skill, love, and dedication when the end product is delicious enough to cause emotional and physical reactions. The matriarch said, "It's just pizza", in reference to the fact that it's not fancy fine dining, but I say noooooo...it might be humble, simple food but I think it should command the same amount of respect as ANY food.  #DTFinCalgary16   #yyc   #calgary   #azzurripizzeria
  • 1 day ago by dennisthefoodie Favourite  #pizza  of the day: Forza Azzurri ($20) with housemade  #InnisAndGunn (!) spicy fennel  #sausage ,  #rapini ,  #mozzarella , and  #provolone . Yes, they put Innis & Gunn  #beer  into their robustly spicy sausage. We all loved how truly spicy the sausage was. Had a real kick to it, but not *too* spicy. Can you believe the amount of sausage on this pie?!? Amazed and delighted.  #DTFinCalgary16   #yyc   #calgary   #beersausage   @azzurripizzeria   #azzurripizzeria  Thanks again  @miss_foodie  for the recommendation! ✋
  • 1 day ago by dennisthefoodie  #Pizza  Feature at  @azzurripizzeria  today for lunch: "The Baggio" ($24) with  #SanMarzano   #tomatoes ,  #evoo ,  #pecorino ,  #parmigianoreggiano ,  #fiordilatte  (those white chunks),  #spinata  picante (thinly sliced salumi that looks like soppressata), and baby  #arugula . The tomato sauce was fresh and bright, and a bit sweet and fruity. Love that crust! It was moderately crispy, chewy, leopard-spotted, and had a certain dryness on the surface that stayed slightly crispy and crusty even after sitting for 30-45 minutes as we ate and talked. I don't see this as true VPN Neapolitan style pizza, but it doesn't have to be! It's better off NOT adhering…
