My dad’s birthday was coming up so, inspired by this thread on Chowhound, I bought the Black Forest Cake from Thierry downtown. I saw the medium sized one in the display case and the lady there said it would feed about 10-12 people. I had to feed 20, so I ordered the large ($48.95+tax). Brassneck x Community Pizzeria: Always a winner!
The combination of brewery tasting rooms and mobile food trucks is a dream come true for me, ever since seeing that setup in action in Portland. Finally in October 2013 it happened in Vancouver with Brassneck opening up and inviting food trucks to park outside. Quickly afterwards, 33 Acres and Parallel 49 started doing the same thing. If you’re every wondering what food trucks will be at Brassneck, following Brassneck’s twitter feed is a must, as is keeping an eye on Street Food App’s Brassneck listing. Chilo’s Taqueria: Kickstarting the Vancouver Taco Revolution
Chilo’s Taqueria holds a special place in my heart because they sorta kickstarted the whole authentic Mexican taco thing in Vancouver. Before Chilo’s, no one was serving taqueria-style or street-style tacos. Nowadays, there are lots of places to get decent-to-pretty-good tacos (Tacofino and the current king La Taqueria) but back then it was the next big thing that got the foodies excited. You’re a dirty burger: Upstairs at Campagnolo
Inspired by this thread on Chowhound, I had to check out the reincarnated Refuel Dirty Burger at Upstairs at Campagnolo, the newly-opened upstairs speakeasy/lounge/bar next to Campagnolo on Main St. I never got to try the original Refuel burger…so with no point of comparison, does the Dirty Burger at Upstairs taste good? Alibi Room 500th Tap List Celebration - Part 1
The beer scene in Vancouver has grown over the last 4-5 years so that there are PLENTY of quality beer and food/beer pairing events to choose from in any given week. One event I had to check out was Alibi Room’s 500th Tap List celebration. Tons of special beers on tap plus casks. This event started yesterday (Sunday, March 9) and goes until Thursday, March 13. Lots of stuff switching in daily, so it isn’t a big deal if you didn’t make the first day. I took photos of the entire 16-page booklet, so you can read and weep! Continue reading Alibi Room 500th Tap List Celebration - Part 1
Longtable Dinner at Longtail Kitchen: Authentic Malaysian Cuisine by Alex Chen
I know we go on and on about Longtail Kitchen (facebook) in New West. They do longtable pop-up dinners featuring different chefs on a semi-regular basis. This was the first one we’ve been to. We really enjoyed it! Continue reading Longtable Dinner at Longtail Kitchen: Authentic Malaysian Cuisine by Alex Chen
