This was our third wonderful trip to Portland. “Beervana” indeed. Another case of waaaaay too much to do and not enough time. In fact, I got a bit overloaded towards the end. Too much of a good thing is a good problem to have…?
This is another post dug out of my personal Facebook account — too good to be left in the walled garden! AFAIK, all the places I visited are still open, so all this info still applies today if you thinking of planning a trip. The one exception is Amnesia Brewing, whose brewpub location got sold and the brewery moved to Washington State (more details here). Congratulations to twinkienic of Between Snacks for winning a beautiful bottle of Mikkeller Risgoop! It was a fun contest, I might do it again! 😉
To celebrate the launch of this blog, I’m giving away a bottle of semi-sorta-not-really-rareish Mikkeller / Three Floyds Risgoop (2012), a barleywine that uses rice! I haven’t even tried this one, but it would make me so happy to share it with one lucky beer geek. Read the RateBeer and BeerAdvocate reviews if you want to learn more about this beer. I bought this during my last trip to Alberta, from the great Sherbrooke Liquor Store in Edmonton. Now you can enjoy it! Drink it now, cellar it, or gift it to a special someone.

We were so happy with brunch at Ask for Luigi that we went back for dinner. Followed by ice cream at Earnest Ice Cream! It was a salty and sweet affair… Continue reading Salty & Sweet: Ask for Luigi and Earnest Ice Cream
Our food & beer adventures in SF! There’s so much to do there, we’ll have to go back soon! This trip was all about having too much on our list to do, but being relaxed and open-minded enough to just let things happen and take chances when they come up! I’ve been to Marutama Ramen a few times since they first opened in May 2013. It’s a nice change from all the pork-based tonkotsu ramen in town. Continue reading Still Nuts About Nut Ramen: Marutama Ramen
I’ve been meaning to try Pourhouse in Gastown for ages. I really want to try their burger, but alas not this time. Just some beers and a snack! Continue reading Beers & A Snack at Pourhouse
We finally tried Ask for Luigi, newish Italian place in Railtown. Good word-of-mouth, online response varies though 😛 Continue reading Tasty Brunch at Ask for Luigi
My dad’s birthday was coming up so, inspired by this thread on Chowhound, I bought the Black Forest Cake from Thierry downtown. I saw the medium sized one in the display case and the lady there said it would feed about 10-12 people. I had to feed 20, so I ordered the large ($48.95+tax). The combination of brewery tasting rooms and mobile food trucks is a dream come true for me, ever since seeing that setup in action in Portland. Finally in October 2013 it happened in Vancouver with Brassneck opening up and inviting food trucks to park outside. Quickly afterwards, 33 Acres and Parallel 49 started doing the same thing. If you’re every wondering what food trucks will be at Brassneck, following Brassneck’s twitter feed is a must, as is keeping an eye on Street Food App’s Brassneck listing.
