Ramen Burger Craze at Hawkers Market

September 29, 2013 dennis Leave a comment

Hawkers Market is a once-a-month food/beer/music event. It’s like a craft fair except with food. Plus loud music and booze. I love everything Hawkers Market stands for. Continue reading Ramen Burger Craze at Hawkers Market →

Kind of a laidback long weekend. We did lunch at La Pentola in Yaletown (in the Opus Hotel). Finally! We’ve been meaning to try this place after La Ghianda closed down. Continue reading Lunch at La Pentola Della Quercia →

I really like this neutered jalapenos — they've got the seeds and most of the white ribs removed so that you can really enjoy the flavour of jalapenos without worrying about the heat. (But then I went on to dip this sandwich into a chocolate habanero hot sauce,

P U B L I C A T I O N // After two years and four months, I've finally posted a new review on the blog (wtf is a blog, you dusty relic?!?). And there wouldn't be a more fitting victim than  @published .on.main, who recently won  #1  on this year's Canada's 100 Best Restaurants list . Well deserved and props for being a Vancouver restaurant. But this win comes with heightened expectations within the usual "post-pandemic" challenges that all restaurants face. This new blog post review is basically a rehash, recap, and re-edit of my blow-by-blow IG stories (which

I actually mixed the cold leftover rice with whole eggs — next time I'll only mix it with yolks and fry the whites separately. I also added Malaysian  #currypowder  for extra flavour and colour ( #GoldenShowerFriedRice ), as well as peas, corn, and leftover Spam.  #homecooking   #yvr   #vancouver

If you've eaten that Korean side dish with stir fried dried anchovies (Myeolchi Bokkeum), you already know what niboshi tastes like. The most extreme end of niboshi ramen is the "cement-style", which

C A N H C H U A // First Wicca-cooked meal after our Calgary/Toronto trip. It's a cliché that  #homecooked  food is best but it's still 100% true in this case .  #Vietnamese   #CanhChua  (Sweet & Sour Soup) made with chicken carcasses,  #halibut  collar,  #salmon  head,  #okra ,  #tarostem  ( #BacHa ), fresh  #pineapple , and all the other stuff you see in the photos — including a sack of spot prawn shells that I've been collecting in the freezer for months. We ate it with sawtooth herb and rice paddy herb, and a bowl of rice on the side. Truly better than

T B D //  #pizzeriabadiali  has a huge following in  #Toronto , recently boosted by an infamous visit by a person I'll refer to as "The Pizza Misogynist (One Bite, Everyone Knows You're A Tool)". What is it about pizza and sports that both inspire rabid, bro-y amazingdom and obsession with who is "the best"? I refrain from calling anything I eat "the best", because what's actually more important is *why* someone thinks something is good (or not good), and that my "good" might not be your kind of "good". Anyways, The Pizza Misogynist's Toronto visit series was funny to watch

A V L I N G 2 N D V I S I T //  @avlingto  is the pinnacle of brewery/restaurants because they're also a farm, with a rooftop garden where they grow 80%(!?) of their vegetable needs. This goes beyond the conventional notion of "green roofs" cuz it's actually feeding mouths, reducing food miles, and generating profit — not just LEED credits. I was thankful to  @ridetowander  for the chat and tour, but I gotta admit I'm very uncomfortable interacting socially in this way. Aside from being an introvert who dislikes most of humanity, I also like to remain
